One of the programmes under the Yayasan Sabah-Petronas Imbak Canyon Conservation Partnership is engagement with villagers living in the surrounding area of Imbak Canyon.

On February 5, 2014, engagement will be with the people of Mukim Pinangah.  The venue for the event is SMK Pinangah.  In 2012, Yayasan Sabah and Petronas organized similar programme in Mukim Karamuak, Tongod involving 4 villages and about 100 villagers including Ketua Kampongs, JKKK Chairman and Ketua Anak Negeri.

The objective of the programme is to enable Yayasan Sabah and Petronas to engage with the local community near Imbak Canyon, and to raise awareness regarding Imbak Canyon and its conservation importance as well as relevant enactment pertaining to the forest and wildlife.  Through the dialogue session, the local community would be able to raise their concerns and aspirations in relation to Imbak Canyon.

There will be 4 talks covering relevant topics, namely:

  1. Pengenalan  Kawasan  Konservasi  Kanyon Imbak by En. Robinson Rozali Rustin, Acting Manager, Imbak Canyon Conservation Area
  2. Perlindungan Hidupan Liar by En. Jimli Perijin,  Officer, Sabah Wildlife Department, Tongod
  3. Polisi dan Warta Hutan by En. Edmund William, Officer, Sabah Forestry Department, Tongod
  4. Imbak sebagai pusat pelancongan utama daerah Tongod  by Prof Dr. Abdul Hamid Ahmad, Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

The new District Officer of Tongod, Mr. Robert Stidi is expected to attend the event.  Also attending is Ms. Julita Ontol, General Manager, Sabah & Labuan Regional Office, PETRONAS and Ms. Rita Stuel Galid, Senior Manager Conservation & Environmental Management Division, Yayasan Sabah.
