untitled13KOTA KINABALU (TUESDAY) – In conjunction with the World Environment Day 2014, the Yayasan Sabah Group and PETRONAS will be organising the second Imbak Canyon Conservation Area (ICCA) Open Day on 5 June 2014 at the Dewan Serbaguna Telupid.

According to the Director of Yayasan Sabah, Datuk Sapawi Bin Haji Ahmad, the main objective of the open day is to promote the ICCA to the local communities associated with ICCA in relations to their proximity, knowledge base, culture and practices vis-à-vis its development as well as to promote awareness on the importance of maintaining a sustainable environment.

Organised in collaboration with PETRONAS and the Telupid District Office, the event will be officiated by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament cum Beluran Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee.

“We hope, the event will also lead to the fostering of a closer relationship between the Yayasan Sabah Group, PETRONAS and communities living around and outside the ICCA and importantly, to successfully promote the ICCA as a learning centre for the community, especially in the field of conservation use of biodiversity and natural resources in a sustainable manner,” explained Datuk Sapawi.

A host of activities will be conducted during the event by Yayasan Sabah Group, PETRONAS and other government agencies namely Information Department, Agriculture Department, Fisheries Department, Fire and Rescue Department and the Royal Malaysian Police Force among others. A special appearance of the popular Malaysian film actress, television host and singer. Maya Karin is expected to be the event’s highlight. Maya will be sharing her thoughts on the environment and the importance of observing the World Environment Day through awareness and caring for the environment.

Apart from these, environmental games and quizzes, entertainment and compost making will be held during the events which promise each visitor, “a worthwhile and educational experience of the ICCA,” according to Datuk Sapawi.
